Jane’s Advanced Strike Fighters PC Performance Analysis

Being a huge fan of pretty much every JANE’s game, I was really looking forward to Jane’s Advanced Strike Fighters. Could this be the comeback of our favorite flight sim games? Apparently not as the game is more similar to Ace Combat than to the older JANE’s sims. To be honest, it was to be expected, especially after hearing that the game would actually be a multi-platform title. And although I don’t have any problems with arcade flight games, Jane’s Advanced Strike Fighters doesn’t provide anything to justify its purchase. Take On Helicopters Performance Analysis

Let us say that we love indie developers and especially Bohemia Interactive. The ArmA series is one of the best military simulation series ever, although its graphics engine is a bit problematic and rough around its edges. So when we heard about Take on Helicopters, we were skeptical. You see, instead of using the brand-new  ArmA 3 engine, Take on Helicopters uses ArmA 2’s engine. And believe us, we tried. We really tried to enjoy Take on Helicopters but the game is currently plagued with performance issues and a – possibly – broken SLI profile. Therefore, if you own an SLI system, stay away from Take on Helicopters, for the time being. Why? Keep reading to find out. Continue reading Take On Helicopters Performance Analysis

Battlefield 3 PC Performance Analysis

Battlefield 3 is finally released, and it’s time to see how this highly anticipated FPS game performs with a modern-day PC. Contrary to other performance analyses, this – as pretty much every other in DSOGaming – is addressed to the average Joe, who does not have the latest and fastest GPU/CPU. So, is our GTX295 outdated and is it time to replace or is it Battlefield 3 enjoyable in Ultra settings with a GTX295 and a Q9650 at 4.2Ghz? Well, time to find out. Dead Island PC Performance Analysis

Dead Island has already met a huge success – even though it was released a few weeks ago – as Techland has managed to offer a great mix between Far Cry and Dead Rising. It is a fun game that needs to be played, even if you don’t funky all those zombie games out there. We were really curious to see how the game would perform as it shares the same engine with CoJ: The Cartel. Would it suffer from all those issues? Well, time to find out how the PC version performs with a modern-day PC. Continue reading Dead Island PC Performance Analysis

F1 2011 PC Performance Analysis

Codemasters has just released the latest version of their F1 game. One of our biggest complains about F1’s previous version was the fact that it wasn’t optimized at all on the PC. Contrary to Grid or Colin McRae series, F1 2010 didn’t perform as we’d expect and was CPU bound. We were expecting Codies to optimize the Ego engine, but it seems that everything is exactly the same as with last year’s offering; same performance issues and the game remains CPU heavy. Call of Juarez: The Cartel PC Performance Analysis

Call of Juarez was one of my most beloved games. Back in the days of DX9, the game featured spectacular visuals and incorporated some unique ideas. Moreover, it was a quality Wild West game, and we didn’t have one since… Outlaws. It basically filled a gap and became even prettier with a DX10 patch that Techland released afterwards. It seems though that the company didn’t realize the reasons behind CoJ’s success. Either that or they became gritty – like most others – and wanted to appeal to a wider audience. The result was a sequel that was inferior to its prequel and a third part that has nothing to do with the series. It could easily be a new IP franchise instead of a Call of Juarez game, but I guess Techland needed the name to trick and sell the game to the fans of the series. Hard Reset PC Performance Analysis

We were really caught off guard by Flying Wild Hog’s first-person shooter. Not only, it’s an old-school FPS that goes against the flow of modern-day’s games, but it’s also one of the most optimized titles we’ve ever played. Hard Reset is a truly PC game, in every possible way and takes advantage of both multicores and SLI/Crossfire. And let us tell you that the scaling is phenomenal. Normally, this would be the first part of our performance analysis – since we are playing a preview build, but Hard Reset is so polished and optimized that there is honestly no need for any other, future analysis. Virtua Tennis 4 PC Performance Analysis

Virtua Tennis has been with us for quite some time. Its debut was on Dreamcast and Arcades and since then, we’ve seen the series coming to almost every major consoles and PC. Virtua Tennis 4 feels like a rehash of 2009’s version with some console-only features – like Move support for PS3 – and a polished World Tour mode. So time to see how the game performs with a modern-day PC. Continue reading Virtua Tennis 4 PC Performance Analysis

Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition PC Performance Analysis

At last, PC gamers can finally enjoy some spectacular fights that will pump up their adrenaline with Capcom’s Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition. Oh yeah, SSF4AE has also been released on the PC and to be honest – and as we’ve said in the past – we knew that it would eventually hit our beloved platform. So time now to see how this little fella performs on a modern-day PC. Continue reading Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition PC Performance Analysis

F.E.A.R. 3 PC Performance Analysis

How can someone start an article about F.E.A.R. 3 and not mention its origins? Few years ago when I was younger, had more hair and was full of ideas and dreams, a new FPS caught my eye. It was F.E.A.R, an FPS that was developed by the talented Monolith team – the same studio that was behind some incredible games like Shogo, No One Lives Forever, Blood and Tron 2.0. F.E.A.R. was meant to be one of the best horror-themed first-person shooters and featured amazing AI, great fire-fights, engrossing story and mind-blowing graphics. It also featured the first slow-mo effect we’ve ever seen in an FPS. It was refreshing, original and scary. It was one of the best games of 2005. Continue reading F.E.A.R. 3 PC Performance Analysis
