A single frame + motion vectors != 2 gb of vram.

FYI a single 4k hdr frame is about 50mb of vram…. and add a motion vector map to that and you get mabe the double if even that. That’s 0.1gb… not the 20 times above that you mention….

I checked my VRAM usage in CP77 with DLSS3 and it barely went over 10 GB. And that was with everything set to maximum.

What if it’s not just the amount of VRAM, but perhaps the Optical Flow Accelerators on most of the cards aren’t as powerful as the ones on the RTX 4090?

Users are buying optimized games and punishing developers that aren’t optimizing their games properly. The most used GPU on Steam are still 1050Ti, 1650 and 1060.

A Plague Tale Innocence runs great on my potato PC. So I bought Requiem too.

These games look amazing and run on low-end hardware because they scale so well, so I don’t need other developers coming up with excuses. Optimize or I won’t buy your game.

FFXV ran very poorly, so I never bought it. Neither will I touch Forspoken with a 10 foot pole.

I am not buying a $400+ GPU when I could simply get a console instead for that price. We’re already paying through our noses for groceries, energy, heating, etc.

Gamers aren’t just buying optimized games and punishing Publishers that are releasing games that are not optimized. Gamers are buying any garbage games that Publishers spew out of there bung holes and that is why gaming is in the sorry state that it is now.

Yes, I am aware of this. DLSS 1/2 are just AI upscaling from lower resolutions, while DLSS 3 use AI to generate entirely new frames.

But you still need a lot of VRAM if you want to use DLSS3 (frame generation). Spiderman and now cyberpunk are VRAM limited on 4070ti 12GB if you want to use this new DLSSx3 tech, at least at higher resolutions).

NOTE: it is recommended to enable upscaling (DLSS) on graphics cards with 16GB or less of VRAM and 1440p or higher resolution.

I thought DLSSx3 would be a success because of the extra performance on cheaper GPUs, but now it looks like only people with RTX4090 can enjoy it because of the 16GB VRAM usage. The 4070ti with “only” 12GB stutters in Cyberpunk like crazy with DLSSx3 at 4K because of VRAM limit, and Nvidia plans to launch a 4060ti with only 8GB.

Additional 2GB at 4K is a lot, and especially if the game is already close to reaching GPU VRAM limit. On 12GB 4070ti frame generation works fine in cyberpunk, but you have to use upscaling (DLSS2/FSR2) in order to stay within VRAM limit, otherwise you will get stutters.
