3D Realms’ next upcoming game could be set in an original fantasy IP, to be revealed soon

It appears that 3D Realms, Duke Nukem developers are working on a new game, according to their latest Tweet. Though, we are not sure whether this new IP will be an FPS-RPG hybrid, or it will only be a fantasy-based RPG, with spells.

As 3D Realms tweeted, “Our next original IP will be revealed very soon… Get excited! 3D Realms’ latest published game was Ion Fury, which was based on the original Duke Nukem’s BUILD Engine. And now the team is focusing on a new all-original IP, which appears to be like a fantasy-based experience, at least judging from the picture posted on their Twitter account.

Or, alternatively this could be a brand new Game, having some of the original first-person shooter gameplay mechanics/elements. A ‘Fantasy’ theme sounds a bit odd for a studio which focuses on first-person shooters, at least in my opinion. But I hope the developers give us some hint about their next IP in the upcoming months.

Apart from this new IP, 3D Realms is also working on WRATH: Aeon of Ruin, which is an FPS built in the original Quake engine, and is currently in early access on STEAM, due to release in 2021. Other published games include Ghostrunner and Kingpin Reloaded. Here is hoping that the developers don’t totally ditch the original first-person shooter gameplay mechanics.
